Hand cream in winter. It’s not new. It’s not earth shattering. It certainly doesn’t make for an interesting blog post (it’s cold, the air is dry, you need to keep your hands hydrated…yawn). But when Nivea Hand Fluid Express Hydration landed on my desk I was immediately in love.
Not because it absorbs instantly. Not because it has sea mineral hydrating complexes. But because it smells like hair mousse. Truth.
I did irish dancing for a very long time, and back before the days of wigs my Mum used to have to set my hair in curlers for competitions and performances. This was most weekends, so Mum was a total curling pro. Over the years we worked out the best curlers for the type of curl we wanted (Sally Hansen bendy curlers rolled vertically were best for ringlets, soft spikes were best for fullness), and which mousse was best for my fine, limp hair. Mum always knew exactly how much mousse to put on each chunk of hair before rolling it, and my curls were always glossy and bouncy. Supermum.
Smelling this hand cream instantly took me back to nights sitting on the floor watching TV, holding a tennis ball sized handful of mousse while Mum yanked and pulled to wrangle each curl into submission. Isn’t it funny how a seemingly random smell can instantly transport you back to a different time. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Nivea.
Nivea Hand Fluid Express Hydration – $4.37 – pretty much everywhere
Disclosure: Nivea sent this product to Stuff That I Bought for consideration. That was nice of them.
Awkward picture alert: this one comes courtesy of my friend Louise. The year was 1998, the nationals were in Scarborough, Perth, and we were high on chicken nuggets and copious amounts of jelly beans. Nationals was always the best week of the year…I miss this (and I miss the abs too).
