St Ives Oatmeal & Shea Butter Body Lotion – a little taste of Hawaii

St Ives Naturally Soothing Oatmeal and Shea Butter Body Lotion

Ok. When I went to Hawaii last year, I stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, which is one of my absolute favourite hotels on the Kalakaua Ave strip (kind of like the strip in Vegas, but with less fluorescent lights. Actually, did you know there are NO fluorescent lights or signage at all in Hawaii? True fact – with all the observatories on Mauna Kea on the big island, it’s very important for international astronomy that Hawaii has no light pollution because they can see almost the whole northern and southern skies. Wow that was a long bracket).

Anyway, you know how any hotel worth their starchy white sheets provides toiletries in the bathroom? The moisturiser at the Outrigger is To. Die. For. Every morning I would hide the tube in my suitcase so they would have to give me a new one, and I came home with a fairly sizeable stash. The ingredient list sounds like a tropical cocktail – noni extract, papaya, pineapple, macadamia nut oil, kukui nut oil, vitamin E, vitamin A and shea butter.

Outrigger Waikiki Lotion

Cut to almost a year later and St. Ives send me a bottle of their Naturally Soothing Oatmeal & Shea Butter body lotion. I hadn’t tried their body lotion before but it has a pump top, which is pretty much the only prerequisite I have for body lotion, so I immediately cleared a space in the bathroom and was slapping that baby on like it was going out of style. First up – it’s a really great moisturiser. It’s glides on silky smooth and sinks in straight away. But beyond the fact it’s super hydrating…beyond the fact my dry skin is feeling very appeased…it smells like my cherished Outrigger moisturiser! Well, almost – it’s missing the tang of pineapple, but the shea plus other ingredients means it’s a very close match. The moment the penny dropped and I realised why the scent was so familiar, I almost hugged the bottle. I definitely did a little happy dance. I might have even high-fived myself.
